Alee Rands, M.S.

Clinical Psychology Extern

Alee Rands (she/her) is a clinical psychology doctoral candidate at Brigham Young University. Her graduate research has focused on group psychotherapy relationships and effectiveness. She is currently working on her dissertation examining group versus individual therapy experience for young adults in the LGBTQ+ community.

Alee has experience providing individual, group, and couples therapy, mostly to adults navigating complicated/serious forms of mental illness (SMI). Her interest in psychology began working as a psychiatric technician at the Utah State Hosptial. She has continued graduate work at this site and others, conducting both therapy and assessment for those with acute SMI conditions. This typically entails navigating comorbid conditions, interpersonal trauma, addiction, and mood concerns.

Alee is interested in the impact relationships have on our mental health; thus, takes an interpersonal approach to therapy. She prioritizes exploring each person's unique and diverse past, in order to understand how they have been shaped into who they've become. In addition to IPT, she has experience providing Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), depending on patient needs.

In addition to psychology, Alee studied art and design in her undergrad. She is personally interested in the relationship between art and psychology. In her free time, she enjoys trail running with her dogs, cooking with her partner, and gardening.
